"Our favourite Airbnb ever. So quiet and remote. The birds and scenery were outstanding. Kathryn was traveling, but Ross was the perfect host ... we got to walk through the garden and select vegetables (and fruit, including 6 fresh and juicy lemons). Ross and I had a great talk ... he was open to discussing life in S. Africa. I learned a lot Highly recommended. Irrespective of how many days you have planned to stay, 'make it at least one more.'"

"What an amazing place!!!...cottage is absolutely stunning, the views are to die for and the stars at night are spectacular. Kath is a wonderful host, she took as through her veggie and herb garden and we could pick what we liked...we were really sorry that our time was too short. Looking forward to return and will definitely recommend this place. Cottage is furnished beautifully and is spotless clean.... Loved every minute we were there!

"We had the most wonderful stay at Numbi Valley. The accommodation was totally superb, we loved lighting the little fire to heat the water for our showers and we slept so peacefully and comfortably every night. The hot tub under the stars was an incredible experience and the views fed our souls. We wished we could stay longer to read all the lovely books in the cottage and spend more time just enjoying being there. The vegetable garden and chicken coop impressed us so much, what a wonderful achievement to see flourishing the way it is. We enjoyed the fresh produce and are infatuated with the cob houses built so lovingly and offering such cosy spaces. Well done Kath and Ross. We highly recommend Numbi Valley to everyone out there! And thank you for taking such good care of us. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration."

"Rustic, secluded, peaceful, amazing setting, excellent hosts are just a few words to describe this sleepy little place. If eco-friendly and sustainability interest you then hosts Katherine and Ross are keen to share their knowledge and enthusiasm on the subject. If privacy and seclusion is what you are after then they will happily oblige. We spent two nights here and wished we could have stayed longer. There is plenty to explore in the area although we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the small farm itself and were happy to dip into the pool (with an unsurpassed view) on a hot, dry afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed this true back-to-nature experience."

"I came to Numbi needing a retreat time, this beautiful unassuming farm being my first choice for such an endevour for many reasons. Even though I live on a farm not far from the Middleplaas my life there does not have the solitude and complete quiet that I need to regenerate and heal. Numbi not only encourages me to eat more consciously (the vege garden is a delight even during this intense drought), it provides an environment free of every kind of pollution and one that flows with the natural cycles. The solar works but you want to have the darkness and the firelight and stars at night. The Firebath room at Numbi is one of the best I have ever experienced and I reveled in the wonderful healing of this natural hydrotherapy treatment. I soaked in a comfrey and Epsom salt bath as the sun set and slept like I have not done in years. The hospitality was fantastic and maybe I am biased because Kathryn and Ross have become dear friends who say little but walk their walk with clear intent.I can highly recommend the space for anyone wanted to reconnect with nature, themselves and life, in an uncluttered and spectacular setting. I will be going back. Soon."

I wish to use this opportunity to allow myself to recommend a fantastic place which I've stayed in not later than last week together with my husband. It is called "Numbi Valley Permaculture Farm". Situated in a secluded Klein Karoo valley within +/- 12kms drive from the picturesque village of De Rust (which is itself at +/- 30 km from Oudtshoorn), it is surrounded by beautiful endless nature and the majestic Swartberg mountains.
There is only one Cottage there to guarantee total privacy and tranquility, which is definitely a bonus. The building itself is "out of this world", and so are the hosts' home, the surroundings and the set-up.
What is very special about this "Numbi Valley Farm" is the way everything has been built, that is to say: not only in a very tasteful, creative (very very creative!!) and neat manner with an overall African flair, but above all with a 100% "organic, green & eco spirit" which radiates through each and every detail, even through activities and courses organised by the hosts Kath and Ross for the public. We furthermore were warmly welcomed by Kath and Ross, who are extremely friendly and professional too (enquiry, reservation, etc. included). They made us feel at home from the moment on we stepped out from the car !
Well, there is so much to say about this place that this message might become far too long... So to resume, we loved absolutely everything about our stay there (including the delicious fresh organic veggies and fruit we bought there). The only negative point about our stay at "Numbi Valley" is that we had to leave too soon !!!
My husband and I highly recommend this establishement and feel that it should be featured in your guide book, as it is definitely a place to be experienced and not to be missed !!

Oh man! Getting to know Kath & Ross has dramatically changed the way I view sustainable living & it has been inspiring spending time with people who with ease & loads of fun have proved it is possible. They live honestly, comfortably, creatively & with minimal impact on their natural environment. In fact their practice has rehabilitated a once heavily impacted upon farm, proving permaculture can heal the land & that it is possible to produce amazing food in what once were practically infertile soils. Whether through their funky cob structures, or their interactions with their food systems, the 2 of them are truly artists. And awesome cooks! They are ultra cool, sharing, clever, funky yet professional people who are well travelled, well exposed & who I am honoured to call my friends & mentors... Get to Numbi Valley. You will be sure to leave inspired, equipped & full of hope for our planet And with a very big new space in your heart....
